Course synopsis
Turkey was where the very first farming began to settle down permanently. as farmers. It has some of the oldest sites in the world such as Gobekli Tepe and Chatal Hoyuk. In the Bronze Age the Hittites dominated the interior while on the coast the city of Troy flourished until its violent overthrow in the Trojan War. In the first millennium BC a series of kingdoms were established including that of rich men like Midas and Croessus. But an age of empires was beginning and first the Persians and then the Greeks under Alexander the Great would leave their mark on the landscape. This course examines the first 10,000 years of the history of this important crossroads between east and west
