Course synopsis
Herod lived c72-4BC and these were turbulent times. He would witness the demise of both the Selucids of Syria and Ptolemies of Egypt whose dynasties went back to the death of Alexander the Great. There was a new power in the east now, the Roman Republic. Herod's father established a power base in the court in Jerusalem but it was a dangerous place. Herod would learn to do whatever was necessary to get to the top and then stay there. He would outlive Caesar, Anthony and Cleopatra. But how would history judge him?
