Course synopsis
The Beatles have become embedded in the fabric of British popular culture. This has been recognised by institutions such as the National Trust, that owns two of their childhood homes and was demonstrated by the renaming of Liverpool Airport for John Lennon.
Each generation knows some of their songs and many people have a basic grasp of their story. Two members continue to tour and record in their eighties; their audience spans all ages. The group and their music have become a crucial part of British heritage as much as Shakespeare, and Dickens.
This course will give an opportunity for music fans to learn more about their story, and develop their understanding of not just what happened, by why, and how.
Steve takes a thematic look at the life and music of the Beatles. We'll explore their Liverpool origins and musical influences, touring and Beatlemania, album covers and famous photos, films and key TV appearances.
We'll learn more about the people who shaped their career, recording techniques, musical development, their inclusivity, and their legacy in the 21st century.
There will be audio and video clips, group discussion and input, plus displays of exhibits and memorabilia.
Steve is a highly qualified Beatles Historian.
