Drawing Flowers

All Events

Information

Flowers have a fascinating architecture! Their petals each have particular shapes and are arranged around the central core of the flower. All flowers grow according to a species-specific three-dimensional design, and our sketching gets us into discovering this.

We will use a tried and tested sketching method: “simplify, sub-divide, correct” – where we start with a simplification of what we see, then subdivide the forms into their major parts, making corrections while we move along. Such a sketching process allows you to capture the plant’s architecture. We will complement this with hatching – to give certain sections of the picture a darker tone – and make them stand out or recede. We will draw from observation but also make sketches that show the construction of a flower without having to observe it. Sabine will give lots of demonstrations!

Bring along any flowers you have and we can include them in what we got on our sketching table.
