Information
Painting with oils is special….they don’t dry as quickly as acrylics and the colours can be blended so smoothly… And, you can always change a colour texture again, and add to it.
In this session we will learn how to paint a landscape with oils, starting with a pencil sketch and then adding colour layers to it. We will learn how to mix paint, using paint, oil and solvent, and use colour perspective for distance and proximity. We will learn to paint far away mountains, close by water surfaces, and groups of trees and houses as they are reflected in the water.
Friday 10th July, 2 pm – 4:30 pm
Please bring:
A4 paper suitable for oil painting or for mixed media.
masking tape and hard backing board (does not have to be a ‘proper’ drawing board’)
Oil paints:
Basic colours (red, blue, yellow),
plus: magenta, ochre, black, green (more than one green would be good…), browns (red-brown and dark-brown), white, black
Oil, e.g. linseed oil
Solvent – preferably non-smelling ones
Brushes: flat brushes are best – e.g. two will do – with each having a bristle area the size of approx. 0.5 cm and 1 cm. If you have more brushes, that is good too
old bits of fabric to rub off paint from brushes
Pencil (HB – the pencils should not be too soft else we get too dark lines)
Pencil sharpener
