Guild Students Debut Novel

Guild Art Student, Julie Conrad has published her debut novel!

High Places:

In 1993 the lies and deceit took their toll on Sir Rufus and he endeavoured to end the relationship, against Magda's wishes.

Neither could have imagined that their actions would lead to terror, incarceration and death. Nor that their descent into the abyss is being orchestrated by an elusive person. Someone with a lot to gain, who has played the long game. Who is pulling the strings?

A note from the author:

This debut novel was started in 1990 and put away into a box along with other pieces of writing I had done for thirty years. In the early 1980s I was a student at Middlesex university, where I studied and received a BA{Hons} Social Science degree and CQSW. Social work qualification. I worked for a number of London Boroughs, Hammersmith and Fulham SSD, Central Middlesex Hospital. Returned to the North West 1988 to continue my SW at Hope Hospital now Salford Hospital, Bury SSD and Wigan SSD where I was a Regulatory Inspector for what is now the CQC.

I never had time to write, work and my dogs and responsibilities consumed my time and energy.

At the beginning of lock down I decided to complete High Places, a psychological thriller. It had been at the back of my mind for years to get it finished.

The idea for High Places came to me late 1989-1990+ When a number of Conservative MPs were having extra marital relationships and publicity around this with lurid stories of these affairs was constant. Particularly as John Major was promoting the Back to Basics policy. The novel is purely from my imagination. Also having studied psychology and attended courses in psychotherapy I have an in-depth understanding on how people's psychology works. Which plays into my writing. I love bringing the characters alive, my objective is to tell a story, be a story teller, to engage people's imagination and provide entertainment and escapism.
