This one-day course will be especially valuable for those who are intending to study Extreme Weather events in the British Isles which commences in the Autumn Term. The course will concentrate on the basics of meteorology. It will take the form of a series of small lectures with breaks in between which will look at the following aspects:
The elements of weather and how we measure them.
The low-pressure system and the associated weather
The Anticyclone or high pressure and its associated weather.
The synoptic charts or weather maps and how to interpret them.
Air masses.
An introduction to some extreme forms of weather.
