I have been a full-time artist for nearly 30 years, working from my studio in beautiful North Derbyshire.
I have shown my work widely across the UK at art fairs, ceramics festivals and in galleries (including several solo shows).
I make hand built ceramic animal sculptures in a bold, semi-abstract style, with simplified details. I suppose less is more.
My inspiration comes primarily from ancient sculpture and pottery, as well as Inuit and folk art.
I have also had a lifelong fascination with the beauty and energy of the natural World, which I try to reflect in my stripped back animal forms – I am drawn to depicting larger mammals especially; horses and cattle, and wild animals like wolves, bears and big cats.
Recently I have been using a layered glazing technique (with slips, engobes, oxides and underglazes) with which I aim to give the impression of a treasured object, bearing proudly the signs of age.
